As I write today, it's September 2025. I've been for my mammograms this year, a breast MRI, blood tests, and follow-up oncology visits. Doctors tell me I am cancer free. I celebrate. I love hearing those words. They are words every cancer victim wants to hear. And when we hear them, we sigh and breathe deeply with relief and a prayer that 'you are cancer free' continues forever.
I was told that if I could be cancer free for five years, I would almost be home free. The chance of the cancer returning would be far less. You'll never know how I want to believe that. I overlook the word 'almost' and pack every single day as full as I can, just in case.
Tom and I have two little dogs now, both Yorkshire Terriers. They are Charlie and Claire. You may remember Claire. She is 9 years old now. Charlie is almost a year, and full of an energy that blesses Tom and me with glorious laughter. You might also be interested to know. I started a Facebook page in August 2023 for quilters. It's a page that makes my teaching available to quilters with an Accuquilt cutting system. It's a page that has expanded to include paper piecing, grid use, and watercolor quilts. It's a page that is interactive, very human, and a true blessing for many. Why? Because we connect globally, and I love that as much as those reading my page.
I have a new website. It's called QuiltersB, named for the traditional quilting bees once enjoyed by ladies in a community who got together and sewed and talked and were there for each other. I have built a like community. It's magical.
So, for anyone 'out there' who wonders what happens after cancer, be forewarned. Life can be an exciting adventure when we reach for new goals. We can accomplish great things when we set our mind to it. We can fill our God given days, perhaps travel to places unknown to us. My travel is into the lives of people across the continents. I build friendships and make a difference. It's my giving back the love I have received from our Lord, and the chance to still teach because I can.
